Warm Ottawa welcome for Obama


U.S. President Barack Obama came to Ottawa on Feb. 19 and received a warm welcome from Gov. Gen. Michaëlle Jean (top) while a crowd of admirers gathered on Bronson Ave. at Carleton to cheer and wave at the president as his motorcade made its way from the Macdonald-Cartier airport.

Good news, bad news for Ontario universities in 2009 federal budget
On the face of it, the federal budget appears to be a good news, bad news story for Ontario's universities.

Recent reports about a lack of funding for research in the federal budget have got members of that community worried, but the $2 billion earmarked for improving post-secondary infrastructure is more than welcome.

Fade to black Carleton - cut the lights for Earth Hour on March 28
Assistant librarian Linda Rossman is issuing a friendly challenge to her colleagues on campus to turn off their lights for Earth Hour on March 28.

On that day, from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., the World Wildlife Fund is calling on Canadians to turn off their lights as part of a global initiative in support of action on climate change. WWF is also encouraging people to make other efforts to be environmentally friendly.
